Recall: Ciao Bella Gelato Pistachio Single Serve Cups.

Irvington, NJ -- March 31, 2009 --- Ciao Bella Gelato Company has launched a voluntary recall of its 3.5 oz Pistachio Gelato Single Serve Cup over concern of potential contamination with the Salmonella organism of the roasted and salted diced pistachios nuts.

The recall applies to the 3.5 oz pistachio containers only, as they contain a diced pistachio nut supplied by Setton Farms, the pistachio grower, which issued a product recall on all products produced after September 1, 2008.

Ciao Bella’s recalled items include the individually-sold Pistachio Single Serve 3.5 oz Cup and 12-pack Pistachio Single Serve 3.5 oz Cup boxes with UPC codes 799512015076 and 799512020018. The product codes of impacted products are 09021, 09027, 09028, 09063, 09068, 09076, 09085, and 09086 listed on the bottom of the cup.

At this time, please note the 16 oz pint and foodservice size containers are not affected. The whole pistachio nut used in these products originates from a different supplier, Nichols Farms, which is not impacted by this recall.

With the safety of Ciao Bella's consumers in mind, a hotline for questions on the recall has been set up at 1-800-3GELATO (1-800-343-5286) and an email address at cbgrecall@ciaobellagelato.com

Ciao Bella is asking consumers to immediately destroy the impacted products and return the container to the retailer for a refund or replacement.
