Arkansas Firm Recalls Ground Beef Products Due To Possible E. coli O157:H7 Contamination

WASHINGTON, May 12, 2009 - Bob's Food City, a Hot Springs, Ark., retailer is recalling approximately 375 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The following ground beef products subject to recall were sold as tray packs of varying weights bearing a "Sell By" date of "05/09/09." The products subject to recall include:

* 1-pound through 5-pound tray packs of "GROUND BEEF CHUCK," "GROUND ROUND" or "REGULAR GROUND BEEF." Each pack bears a sell by date of "05/09/09." There is no USDA mark of inspection on the tray packs.

These ground beef products were produced on May 7, 2009, and were sold to customers of the Bob's Food City retail store located at 800 Malvern Avenue, in Hot Springs, Ark.

The problem was discovered through FSIS sampling procedures. FSIS has received no reports of illness due to consumption of these ground beef products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a physician.

E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and in the most severe cases, kidney failure. The very young, seniors and persons with weak immune systems are the most susceptible to foodborne illness.

Eastern Lamejun Bakers Issues Voluntary Recall Of Pistachio Nuts.


Belmont, MA -- April 10, 2009 --- Eastern Lamejun Bakers is conducting a voluntary recall of its 0.75 – 1.00 pound packages of its "Pistachio Nuts California." This voluntary recall is being conducted as a precautionary measure due to the fact that Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella has expanded their recall to include all roasted, shelled and in-shell Pistachio Nuts from the 2008 crop year because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

The recalled “Pistachio Nuts California” were sold to retail consumers at the Eastern Lamejun Bakers retail store located at 145 Belmont St, Belmont, MA 02478. The product was packaged in a plastic bag with a twist tie and is labeled as “California Pistachio Nuts, 136” and weighs anywhere between 0.75 and 1.00 pounds.

Eastern Lamejun Bakers has not received any consumer or customer complaints on this product and there have been no reported illnesses associated with this product. The product should not be consumed, but rather returned to the store for a refund or exchange.

Bremner Food Group Announces Voluntary Nationwide Recall Of Shurfine, Stop & Shop, Giant And First Choice Brand Roasted And Salted Pistachios.

St. Louis, MO, April 10, 2009 --- Flavor House Products, Inc. and Nutcracker Brands, Inc., both part of the Bremner Food Group, announced a voluntary recall today of several brands of in-shell roasted and salted pistachios and dry roasted pistachio kernels. This recall is a precautionary measure due to the voluntary recall of pistachios announced by the supplier of the pistachios, Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc., on March 31, 2009. Due to the products’ potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, the specific brands being recalled are as follows:

No other Shurfine, Stop & Shop, Giant or First Choice brand products are involved in this recall.

Bremner has not received any reports of illnesses in connection with the items listed above to date, and no other Bremner products are affected by this action.

These recalled pistachios, supplied by Setton Pistachio, were distributed to Shurfine, Stop & Shop, Giant and First Choice by Bremner. Setton Pistachio has initiated a recall of pistachios for all of its 2008 crop as it continues to investigate the potential for its pistachios to be contaminated by Salmonella. In light of these developments Bremner is undertaking this recall.

Consumers who have recently purchased the item listed above should not consume this product and should return it to the store of purchase for a full refund or replacement. Freshdirect Recalls Pistachio Products Because Of Possible Health Risk.

LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y. – April 10, 2009 --- Following the recently expanded recall of Setton Pistachio products, FreshDirect of Long Island City, NY is voluntarily recalling all FreshDirect Salted and Unsalted Pistachios sold by FreshDirect on or after November 11, 2008. FreshDirect’s pistachio supplier sources from multiple California pistachio growers. From November 11, 2008 until recently, our supplier sourced a portion of its pistachios from Setton Pistachio in California, which have been recalled by Setton as they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Culver City, CA - April 10, 2009 -- Flanigan Farms announced the voluntary recall of Flanigan Farms branded pistachios due to potential contamination with salmonella.

House Of Flavors Recalls Ice Cream Sold In The Northeast U.S.

Ludington, MI -- (April 10, 2009) – House of Flavors Ice Cream Company has announced a voluntary recall of select ice cream products made with pistachio nuts that have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Top Food & Drug and Haggen Food and Pharmacy Stores Recall Pistachios.

Bellingham, WA - April 9, 2009--- TOP Food & Drug and Haggen Food & Pharmacy stores in Washington and Oregon have voluntarily recalled pistachios from Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. due to concerns of potential Salmonella contamination.

Diamond Foods Issues Voluntary Recall of In-Shell Pistachio Item.

San Francisco, Calif. (April 8, 2009) - Yesterday, Setton Farms of Terra Bella Inc. expanded their voluntary pistachio recall due to potential salmonella contamination. As a precautionary measure, Diamond Foods, Inc., which sourced 400 cases of pistachios from Setton, decided to voluntarily recall the Emerald in-shell pistachio nut item which was in very limited distribution (Emerald In-Shell Pistachios, 2.25 oz, UPC 1030068389, Best Before Date 30-Jan-10 to 10-Feb-10). Diamond Foods has received no reports of illness related to this product.

Mrs. Grissom’s Salads CEO Kenneth Funger said the omission was discovered April 8, 2009 during a routine inspection at the company’s processing and packaging plant in Nashville, Tennessee. The Worcestershire sauce used in these products contains anchovies, and people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to fish run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. We are recalling the products and revising the labeling to ensure persons with fish allergies are aware of its presence.

Funger said that the company has received no complaints or reports of an allergic reaction to the products.

April 8, 2009 -- Barnard Nut Company of Miami, FL is recalling Pistachio nut products, because the pistachios may be part of the recall by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. due to contamination with the Salmonella organism.

Pistachio nut product that were distributed in Florida to re-distributors, and subsequently sold it via direct store delivery to retail stores also in Florida.

April 9, 2009 -- Werner Gourmet Meat Snacks Inc. of Tillamook Oregon is voluntarily recalling Garlic Flavored Pistachio and Jalapeno Flavored Pistachio Items, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. These products were manufactured using pistachios recalled by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

These products were distributed to retail stores nationwide.

The following is a list of the product names UPC numbers and best by dates of the products affected by this recall. The UPC number is on the back of the package near the top on the right. The best by date is on the front of the package near the bottom. These products are packaged in clear film packages with a label that reads “Werner Gourmet Snacks” at the top of the package and have a net wt. of 2.5 ounces.

Cub Foods Brand Queen Olives Stuffed With Minced Pimientos Recalled Due To Possible Glass Contamination.


Stillwater, Minn. (April 10, 2009) – CUB FOODS® is voluntarily recalling Cub Foods brand Queen Olives Stuffed with Minced Pimientos because the jars have the potential to be contaminated with glass. The affected product was sold at Cub Foods stores in Minnesota and Iowa.

There have been no reported injuries associated with the identified product. However, because the safety of customers is a top priority and out of an abundance of caution, Cub Foods has voluntarily recalled the product.

April 7, 2009 -- Tillamook Country Smoker of Bay City, Oregon is recalling 1.5 oz. (42 g) and 1 lb. Packages of Pistachios (Salted in Shell), because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The products were manufactured using pistachios recalled by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The 1.5 oz. packages of Pistachios were distributed and sold nationwide through retail stores, distribution centers or via the Internet. One pound (1 lb.) packages were sold in the onsite retail store located in Bay City, OR.

Pistachios were packaged in a 1.5 oz. (42 g) and 1 lb. plastic packages and labeled “Tillamook Country Smoker Pistachios”. Affected products have a “Sell By Date” ranging from 07 30 09 through 12 17 09. The 1.5 oz. package has a UPC code of “051943500607”, and there is no UPC code on the 1 lb. package.

No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products. The recall was initiated after it was determined that the pistachio product received was manufactured by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. Amalgamated Produce, Inc. Recalls Sprouts in the North Eastern United States.

April 9, 2009 -- Amalgamated Produce, Inc. (API), Bridgeport, CT, announced a voluntary recall today of its Specialty Farms, Vermont Sprout House, Nature’s Promise and BroccoSprouts (noted as distributed by API, Bridgeport, CT) sprout items with sell by date codes of March 31 through April 27, 2009.

These sprouts are being recalled because they may have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes (Lm). Lm is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

There have been no cases of Listeriosis reported to date in connection with these products and API is issuing this recall as a precaution.

Amalgamated Produce, Inc. voluntarily recalled these sprouts after laboratory analysis in a finished product sample collected by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets tested positive.

Londonderry, NH -– April 3, 2009 -–Stonyfield Farm is conducting a voluntary recall of Fat Free Plain Quarts in Stonyfield Farm branded containers limited to specific dates. The products are being recalled because they may contain a presence of food grade sanitizer.

The recalled walnut Baklavas were distributed at Whole Foods Retail Stores in the following states (MA, RI, and CT).

The product comes in 2 ounce clear plastic containers (Bar code: 2 065185018 9). The new product will have under the ingredient list the following statement "This product contains trees nuts, pine nuts and peanuts".

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the peanut-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of peanuts. There was one consumer complaint that resulted in an allergic reaction.

Production of the product has been suspended until FDA and L & D are certain that the problem has been corrected.

Nature Kist Snacks Issues Nationwide Voluntary Recall of In-Shell Pistachio Nuts.


Stockton, CA (April 1, 2009) – As a follow up to the voluntary recall of roasted shelled and inshell pistachios announced by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. on March 30, 2009, Nature Kist Snacks announced today that it is voluntarily recalling Nature Kist and Holiday Nut branded in-shell salted pistachios listed below, as a precautionary measure because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella.

To date, the Company has not received any reports of illnesses in connection with the items listed below.

No other code date, package size or flavor is impacted. These are the only Nature Kist Snacks product impacted by this recall. This voluntary recall is not related to the recent peanut/ peanut butter recalls.

Consumers who have recently purchased the items listed below should not consume this product and should return it to the store of purchase for a full refund or replacement. The Company is also asking its customers, such as wholesalers/distributors, who have resold the recalled items, to notify their customers that the items listed have been recalled.

Snackerz Inc. Recalls Snackerz Roasted and Salted Peanuts.


March 26, 2009 -- Snackerz Inc. of Commerce, CA, is recalling Snackerz Roasted & Salted Peanuts because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The recalled peanuts were distributed in CA, NV, AZ, and TX in retail stores and through mail orders.

The product is sold in a 2.5 ounce, plastic bag labeled as Snackerz Roasted & Salted Peanuts with a UPC code #7-61584-19701-1 and with a Best Before or Best Buy date of 5/20/2006 through 11/12/2009 on the top of the package and an expiration date stamped on the side.

This recall is being initiated because the product contains peanuts that were manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). PCA previously recalled the peanuts because of concern about Salmonella contamination.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

Setton International Foods, Inc. Issues Precautionary Nationwide Voluntary Recall.

As previously reported on March 30, 2009, Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. (Terra Bella, California) issued a voluntary recall of it's bulk roasted shelled pistachios. Today, it's sister company located in Commack, New York has issued the following:

Commack, NY (April 3, 2009) – Setton International Foods, Inc., as a precautionary measure, is voluntarily recalling several of its roasted shelled pistachio nut products listed below that contain pistachios manufactured by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc.

The products subject to this voluntary recall were purchased from Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. This voluntary recall is not in any way related to the recent recalls associated with peanuts or peanut butter. This voluntary recall is not in any way related to any inspection (click here to see reference) conducted by New York State or the United States Food and Drug Administration.

Harry and David Recalls Pistachio Nut Candy and Mendiants.



April 2, 2009 -- Harry and David, of Medford, Oregon, is voluntarily recalling three Harry & David products, a Mendiant Assortment, a Capiz Chocolate Tower containing Mendiants, and Fruit and Nut Mendiants. These products contain pistachios. The pistachios may be part of the recall by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. due to contamination with Salmonella.

The Mendiants are flat pieces of chocolate candy with fruit and nut pieces on top. Affected products are in the following items:

Mail Order Products distributed throughout the United States beginning October 2008.

Mendiant Assortment – A 9 oz. box of 15 candies containing an assortment of 3 mendiant flavors. Each piece is individually wrapped in plastic. The dark chocolate and white chocolate flavors contain pistachios. The lot codes of affected products start with: 0229M, 2818M, 3048M and 3518M. These lot codes are printed on the plastic wrapper covering the base of the box of candy. UPC 7 8099430755 1 The Mendiant Assortment also was distributed to two recipients in Canada.

Capiz Chocolate Tower – A gift tower consisting of three wooden boxes with lacquered shells on the lids: The top box contains an assortment of 10 caramel and nut candies. Pistachios are in the one dark chocolate pistachio cluster candy in the assortment, but these candies are not affected by the recall. The middle box contains 16 candies containing an assortment of mendiant flavors. Each piece is individually wrapped in plastic. The dark chocolate (5 each) and white chocolate (5 each) flavors contain pistachios. The bottom box contains an assortment of chocolate candies. These candies do not contain pistachios. All lots are being recalled.

Harry and David Store Products distributed exclusively in Harry and David Stores in the United States.

Fruit and Nut Mendiants – A 9 oz. box of 15 candies containing an assortment of 3 mendiant flavors. Each piece is individually wrapped in plastic. The dark chocolate and white chocolate flavors contain pistachios. The lot codes of affected products start with: 0229M, 0289M and 0299M. These lot codes are printed on the plastic wrapper covering the base of the box of candy. UPC 7 8099475179 8

There have been no illnesses or injuries reported to date affiliated with these products. Anyone concerned about an illness/injury should contact a physician immediately. Harry and David has informed FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency.

Recall: Ciao Bella Gelato Pistachio Single Serve Cups.


Irvington, NJ -- March 31, 2009 --- Ciao Bella Gelato Company has launched a voluntary recall of its 3.5 oz Pistachio Gelato Single Serve Cup over concern of potential contamination with the Salmonella organism of the roasted and salted diced pistachios nuts.

The recall applies to the 3.5 oz pistachio containers only, as they contain a diced pistachio nut supplied by Setton Farms, the pistachio grower, which issued a product recall on all products produced after September 1, 2008.

Ciao Bella’s recalled items include the individually-sold Pistachio Single Serve 3.5 oz Cup and 12-pack Pistachio Single Serve 3.5 oz Cup boxes with UPC codes 799512015076 and 799512020018. The product codes of impacted products are 09021, 09027, 09028, 09063, 09068, 09076, 09085, and 09086 listed on the bottom of the cup.

At this time, please note the 16 oz pint and foodservice size containers are not affected. The whole pistachio nut used in these products originates from a different supplier, Nichols Farms, which is not impacted by this recall.

Ciao Bella is asking consumers to immediately destroy the impacted products and return the container to the retailer for a refund or replacement.

Country Aire Inc Recalls Raw Redskin Peanuts.

Port Angeles, WA -- April 1, 2009 --- Country Aire INC of Port Angeles, WA is recalling Raw Redskin Peanuts, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Raw Redskin Peanuts were distributed by the Nut Factory of Greenacres, WA and sold at Country Aire INC, 117 East First ST, Port Angeles, WA 98362 from December 28, 2007 to March 12, 2009.

This product was repackaged into zip-lock bags in various quantities of less than a pound and does not contain lot codes or UPC code information. Each bag was labeled with a scale label with the price per pound, weight, total price, and the name “Country Aire.”

No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product. The recall was initiated after it was determined that the peanut product received was manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America. Country Aire Inc., has informed FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency.

Candies Tolteca Recalls Two flavors of Peanut Snacks.




CANDIES TOLTECA of Fresno, California is recalling 4 oz. CACAHUATE C/CHILE; 4 oz CACAHUATE C/SAL Y LIMON; AND 7 oz CACAHUATE CON CHILE because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Cacahuate C/Chile and Cacahuate c/Sal y Limon were distributed in California and Nevada through Independent Distributors who in turn, distributed and sold to many retail stores, including Supermarkets, Gas Stations and Convenient Stores.

The products come in either a 4 ounce, clear plastic package with UPC Code 70492750518 labeled Cacahuate C/Chile (Spanish for Peanuts with Chile), a 4 ounce, clear plastic package with UPC Code 70492750517 labeled Cacahuate C/Sal y Limon (Spanish for Peanuts with Salt & Lemon) or a 7 ounce, clear plastic package with UPC Code 70492750525 labeled Cacahuate con Chile (Spanish for Peanut with Chile). The label states Candies Tolteca Co. Mexican Candies and is bright yellow with a bright orange border. The logo on the left side of the label is of a Toltec character holding an object in his left hand.

"No illnesses have been reported to date."

The company has been working and will continue to work with the Independent Distributors to remove all possible contaminated Cacahuate c/Chile and Cacahuate c/Sal y Limon from store shelves. It has terminated its business relationship with Peanut Corporation of California and now longer has any of their products in stock. New fresh Peanut products are being used in production and the label is marked with a “9” on the back panel of label, as to not cause any confusion with the older possible contaminated product.
