Brown & Haley Voluntarily Recalls Honey Roasted Peanut ROCA Buttercrunch Toffee and Peanut Delights Products Because of Possible Health Risk

February 27, 2009 -- Brown & Haley announced today that it is taking the precautionary measure of voluntarily recalling Honey Roasted Peanut ROCA Buttercrunch Toffee and Peanut Delights. These products contain peanuts obtained from the Plainview, Texas plant of Peanut Corporation of America (PCA).

These peanuts have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Honey Roasted Peanut ROCA Buttercrunch Toffee was distributed to retail stores nationwide and sold directly to consumers via the internet. Peanut Delights were sold directly to consumers at Brown & Haley’s outlet stores in Tacoma, WA and Fife, WA.
